Roman Coins From
Is it possible to purchase a genuine coin from the Roman Empire (esp from the age of Augustus)?

and how much would it cost?

I would start at vcoins.com, but remember that the prices will be somewhat high compared to Ebay. It depends on the quality you want. Maybe contact a dealer and tell him you want a nice specimen of Augustus that is the most common type. This should be the cheapest example you can get. If you knew what you were doing, there are many coins on Ebay that are authentic, but you do need to know how to separate them from the forgeries.

Augustus is fairly inexpensive since he ruled for a very long time. The following Emperor Tiberius is more expensive since he didn’t rule nearly as long, so therefor not as many coins were struck. You should be able to find a nice example of an As, (a copper coin denomination a little larger than a quarter), for about $25.
